Leyton Orient captain Liam Kelly could face a lengthy ban after appearing to push a ball boy in their game against Plymouth on Tuesday.
Orient are currently languishing in the bottom two of the Sky Bet League Two table, and headed to second-place Plymouth on Valentine's Day in need of a victory.
Danny Webb's side were winless in their previous eight outings - having lost six in a row during that run - and the away side were 2-1 down when the incident occurred in the 86th minute.
A ball was played into the Plymouth area as the Orient players, including skipper Kelly, tried to direct it goalwards but it eventually rolled wide.
As a ball boy came out to collect the loose ball, the midfielder pushed him to the floor to retrieve the ball for a corner.
However, he now faces retrospective action from the FA after being charged with violent conduct on Thursday evening.
