Pep Guardiola emphasised the importance of teamwork as he celebrated picking up the Premier League's manager of the month award for September with several members of his predominantly Spanish coaching team.

The Manchester City boss was rewarded for another stellar four weeks in charge at the Etihad with the monthly gong, and posed for a picture with his trophy alongside six of his backroom staff.

Xabi Mancisidor, Rodolfo Borrell, Domenec Torrent, Brian Kidd, Mikel Arteta and Carles Planchart have each played their own part in guiding City to the top of the Premier League table with six wins from their seven matches to date.

City scored 17 goals in the league in September as they demolished most of their opponents.

Guardiola's men began the month with a 5-0 romp over Liverpool before hammering Watford 6-0 at Vicarage Road.

That was followed by a 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace at the Etihad, while September ended with a hugely impressive 1-0 win at champions Chelsea.

CITY IN SEPTEMBER

Sep 9: Liverpool (h) WON 5-0

Sep 16: Watford (a) WON 6-0

Sep 23: Crystal Palace (h) WON 5-0

Sep 30: Chelsea (a) WON 1-0

All that added up to an easy decision for the award jury, who handed Guardiola his second monthly prize since taking charge of City in the summer of 2016.

The Spaniard saw off competition from Jose Mourinho of Manchester United, Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

City return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Stoke.

The game is due to kick-off at the Etihad at 3pm on Saturday.

BUT WHO ARE THEY?

Xabi Mancisidor (goalkeeper coach)

The Spaniard impressed during his three years at the City Football Academy prior to his elevation to the senior ranks. He had been on the coaching staff at both Real Madrid and Malaga with Manuel Pellegrini. Played a handful of matches for Real Mallorca.

Domenec Torrent (assistant coach)

Torrent has worked with Guardiola since he started his coaching career with Barcelona B in Spain's third-tier Segunda Division B and is always sat next to him on the bench.

The 55-year-old Spaniard is arguably Guardiola's most trusted lieutenant.

The grandson of a former Barcelona player, Torrent was the only member of the coaching staff apart from the manager allowed to give team talks during their time together at Bayern and Barca.

Rodolfo Borrell (assistant coach)

Like many of Guardiola's closest assistants, Borrell also has Barcelona close to his heart as he previously helped to develop the likes of Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas while at the Catalan giants.

Borrell left his coaching role at Liverpool to join Manchester City as a global technical director in March 2014 and is now one of Guardiola's right-hand men.

Mikel Arteta (assistant coach)

The Spaniard did not have any experience of coaching under his belt prior to taking up the role at City but he has got a supreme knowledge of the English game.

Arteta played in the Premier League between 2005 and 2016 with Everton and Arsenal before he decided to go into coaching last year. He shares the same philosophy as Guardiola having also started his professional career at Barcelona.

Brian Kidd (assistant coach)

Guardiola inherited Kidd from Pellegrini's regime but was quick to tell the 68-year-old that he wanted to keep him within his ranks.

Kidd was famously on the coaching staff at Manchester United during Sir Alex Ferguson's illustrious time in charge, took solo charge of Blackburn in the 1990s and has also been on the backroom team with England.

Carles Planchart (assistant coach)

Video analyst and scout who breaks down every move made by Guardiola’s own players within minutes of each game ending, and supplies minute detail on the opposition players to prepare for the next game.

His role also encompasses talent spotting as Bayern Munich - and now City - look to secure top signings for the former Barcelona manager.

Planchart will comment on collective, individual, strategic and tactical aspects of his team's play before Guardiola works one-on-one with specific players in response.
